Common names: Slender Oats
Description: Annual grass, up to 1 meter high.
Flowers: Loose pannicle, flowers only on only one side of spikelets (opposed to Avena fatua, which flowers on both). Awns contain a yellow to black seed with a circular scar at the base.
Leaves: 3-8 mm wide and 30 cm long, slightly hairy.
Reproduction: By seed. Seeds fall to ground when mature and may stay viable in the ground for up to 10 years.
Flowering: March to June
Habitat and Ecology: Native to Southern Europe
